Top 5 Gothic Romance Novels on My To Be Read List
As an author, I am constantly reading novels across many genres. Of course I have my favorites, and yes, those do tend to be the classics in horror, but occasionally I like to branch out and read some gothic romances. I’ve recently added quite a few to my “To Be Read List” and thought I’d share a few.
Rebecca by Daphne De Maurier: I have to admit, I love the movie so I can’t wait to dive into the written story about the young heroine swept off her feet by Maxim de Winter, taken to his country estate, and then caught up in his dark secrets of the past and his late wife’s death. Will his secrets destroy their happiness?
Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke: River West comes to a seaside town and rents the cottage behind Violet’s crumbling estate. As soon as he does, strange things start to happen. Is he just a sexy stranger or could he be something more? Violet’s grandmother always warned her about the Devil, but she never mentioned this… Is River West the Devil?
The Lantern by Deborah Lawrenson: A whirlwind romance takes Eve to the lavender fields of the South of France. As autumn approaches the romance cools and Eve searches for answers, answers that hint at mystery of his ex-wife Rachel. Can she trust the love of her life or is her life in danger?
Ironskin by Tina Connolly: A fey curse has left scars on her face, the ironskin contains the curse, but at what cost? Dorie longs for the love of artist Edward Rochart, but he has a constate parade of ugly women going in his studio and coming out beautiful. Will he ever see past the ironskin that contains her curse?
Strands of Bronze and Gold by Jane Nickerson: Upon the death of her father, Sophia Petheram revieves an invitation from her Godfather, the mysterious Monsieur Bernard de Cressac. At first she enjoys her new comfortable life, but soon she begins to unravel the mystery of her benefactor and his former wives-all with hair as red as hers- in the forgotten corners of the abbey. Where will this secret take her?
These are just a few of the gothic romance novels on my “to be read list”. Do you have a few of these on your list? If not, what novels are on you list?
