Professional eBook Conversion – Do It Yourself Tips
Nowadays the world is going digital. People now rely on digital technologies more than other things. And, reading habits are not away too. Now people prefer reading novels, books, etc. on devices like Kindle, Nook, iPAD, etc. However, these devices can read a novel, a book, or a magazine in specific formats like epub, epdf, mobi, etc. And the process of creating such a format is called professional ebook conversion.
Whereas the process is known as professional ebook conversion, you cannot just assume that you cannot do it. If you have good knowledge of tools like MS Word then you can do it yourself as well. At least you can do it for aggregators like smashwords, lulu.com, KDP, etc because these aggregators accept Word Doc file and converts that into an ebook format, which is made available for purchase on their networks. However, they have some set of rules, which you must need to follow while setting up your Word doc for submission to these aggregators otherwise the Word Doc will be rejected and you will have to do the job again.
Here I have some Do it yourself tips for professional ebook conversion. These are the tips, which if you apply in the Word Doc then it will be accepted by all aggregators.
Step 1: Decide the aggregator to which you will submit the Word Doc because each aggregator may have some agreement about the duration. And, once you have submitted the file to an aggregator and the aggregator has converted it into an ebook then you will not be able to put that on sale with other aggregator for a particular period.
Step 2: Once you have selected an aggregator, check if they want you to add any particular copyright notice in the ebook. In case you do not add that particular copyright note, your word doc will be rejected by the aggregator. Smashwords is an example in this case.
Step 3: Ensure that the size of the Word Doc is 5.5×8.5 or 6×9.
Step 4: Set top, bottom, left, and right margin to 0.5 inch.
Step 5: Do not add header and footer.
Step 6: Do not use fancy fonts.
Step 7: Do not use any type of text box or table.
Step 8: Create Clickable TOC using bookmarks than any other automated way.
